Welcome to the group.

In my school, the reading cadre chose to focus on comprehension strategies this 
year, so we used the book 7 Keys to Comprehension as our main focus. Cadre 
members were allowed to choose a book to read that related to that book (Mosaic 
of Thought, Strategies That Work - were among the ones chosen). At each cadre 
meeting (monthly) we discussed one of the 7 strategies and what the other books 
had to say about the same strategy. Then, at our 2 hour late start inservice 
days (we have 5 all together), cadre members presented the strategies to the 
rest of the faculty. Each late start was dedicated to a specific strategy, with 
Det. Importance and Synthesizing being combined. We will present Fix-Up 
strategies at a regularly scheduled faculty meeting. It has been good to see 
the whole school on the same page, and to hear the kids from all different 
classes and grade levels talking the same language about their scheme and 
metacognition, etc. I don't have any official data about the effectiveness, but 
it was well received by the staff. Each late start would have a different team 
of cadre members presenting, usuall with a power point, some modeling of the 
strategy, and hand-outs, and usually some time was spent in groups discussing 
how teachers felt like they could implement the strategy.

Next year we plan to have a school-wide schedule of when to teach the 
strategies. There is a good sample schedule on the Mosaic listserv website, in 
case you haven't found it yet.
