We purchased the Comprehension Toolkit 3 years ago for our 4th grade
teachers. I highly recommend it. It has explicit lessons for each
strategy in a scaffolded and systematic sequence. You can use the
picture books or short articles that go with the Toolkit. If so the
lesson plans are scripted word for word, similiar to Calkin's Units of
Study books. Or if you want to use it with other resources or with
another grade level, there is a general outline lesson plan that is
equally easy to use. The students end up creating Anchor Charts for each
strategy that really helped them practice the strategies during
independent reading and content instruction time. The Toolkit uses whole
group for initial instruction with turn and talk partner discussions along
with partner, small group and individual guided practice.

Thanks
