I, too, read Text Talk for the review. I agree with the importance of
what Lori said..."That we must be unwilling to waiver from best
pratice."
It seems in my building that all too often, come close to testing
time, that our great instruction shuts down and test prep begins. As
a lit coach, I have always tried to show teachers that if we just
provide that great instruction, with the test prep built in, our kids
will do just fine on the high stakes test.
This book has helped me with my staff to see, in writing, how we
can do that. I have shared several lessons, gone in a modeled a
few and teachers are so excited when they observe how this can be
done.
The format of the book is so easy and oh, so teacher friendly! I
agree with Lori, too, that you will want to get a copy. Our
educational co-op is hosting a workshop based on the book this
summer, so many of my teachers are signing up for that in order to
dig in a little deeper.
