Hi Linda,
Thank you for your immediate response. Please do send me your comparison
notes... they would help me out a lot..... I am working with our literacy coach

to pick the right resource.... the district is not willing to commit to any
kit unless they see some results.... I have tried to get them to pick up the
tab for my pilot but they are not budging considering it less than
prescriptive
if not completely made by our teachers...... But to my mind.... I would like
to see what exactly is involved in writing these kits before we attempt our
own ventures. If it is not too time consuming, please forward your notes to
me. Thanks again.
Pam

Hi Pam,
I work in a grade 3-4 school and my teachers compared the
Comprehension Toolkit (not the Primary Kit), the Grade 3 Sundance
Nonfiction Comprehension Strategies Kit (They also do have a fiction
kit), and Mondo's Now I Get It. My teachers much preferred the
Sundance Kit. It was easier to use and includes interactive practice
cards, leveled reading selections, take-home readers, a writing link,
a family letter for each strategy, etc. I typed up a comparison of
the 3 kits. If you think it would be helpful, I can send it to you.
Linda

Yes I need some more comparison information about the primary toolkit
vs.
Sundance's comprehension strategies kit. I, too, will be purchasing
with my own
money. I received some samples from Sundance and I can tell that this
company
has two parts in its set.... a ficition sampler and nonfiction
sampler for
asking questions. I am assuming that all the other strategies follow
this
same format using both genres. I notice a teacher's guide with a
CD, strategy
posters, modeling transparencies, practice cards, and three leveled
selections (above, on and below level) for each strategy geared to
first grade.. Can
some of you compare this with what the primary toolkit from
Heinemann has to
offer. Your speedy response would be greatly appreciated..
Pam
