There may be a number of people on Mosaic that have trouble receiving all
the messages. The reason is often due to the fact that we have to send out
emails in "batches". 

I'd compare this to getting kids home from school. If every kid at a very
large school had to be in a separate car, the traffic system would be snared
in gridlock. However, if you "batch" the kids into busses depending on their
destination, you save resources and traffic moves. Think of our Mosaic
members as the students and the busses being "batches" of messages to a
group of our members.

What typically causes problems is that some batches are held up. This is
generally due to Yahoo (95%) or school servers (4.5%) with "issues". If your
message happens to be in a batch that has a problem then the whole batch
isn't delivered. This is like a bus system that has to wait until the first
passenger is unloaded before it can move onto the next passenger's location.

These undelivered batches get put into the mail queue and the system tries
to deliver them every hour or two. That being the case, you can sometimes
see a message from a later batch that is delivered while an earlier batch
sits in the mail queue. There are dozens of other variables that impact
service that I won't go into at this time. 

Mostly our problems are with Yahoo and there are probably several hundred
people using Yahoo email. So, a considerable portion of Mosaic members that
are in "Yahoo batches" are impacted. Sometimes I'll see a batch go through
to Yahoo and then the next time that same batch get refused due to "user
complaints". 

Today, we have three school servers that are refusing our messages or not
responding. Usually I ignore these for a day thinking that they'll get the
problem worked out. After 48 hours (or on weekends) I'll typically disable
anyone from that school so later batches can move through the system.

It's an imperfect system trying to balance system resources with demand (and
there is a lot of need from Mosaic - 1700+ members). I've tried going with
smaller batches, but this has had a severe impact on system resources.
