If you haven't already, I recommend you check out this book: Miss Alaineus A Vocabulary Disaster and the accompanying website below. Students put on a "vocabulary parade". I am planning on using this idea along with our word collection notebooks. My thought is that this activity will create engagement and assist children in developing ownership of their chosen words. I think the read aloud and parade would work on any level. I have a colleague who is using it with her fifth graders and they love it! I plan to use it with 3rd graders.
