Victoria!
I think by using a balanced approach to literacy, you can differentiate your 
instruction, while meeting the needs your various student groups. Be sure to 
include a lot of word study, and comprehension instruction, using all kinds 
of text/genres.
For your guided reading groups I would using recommend instructional-leveled 
text. Taking ORAs and running records are important for monitoring student 
progress.
If you're using a specific reading program (e.g. McMillan-McGraw) there will 
be a lot of ideas and activities.
