Pat, I teach 6th grade reading and I used The Comprehension Toolkit this past school year. I went to my school yesterday to look at our state reading test results and out of 96 students who took the test I had 98% who scored proficient (76 scored a 4 and 18 scored a 3) on our state reading test. I only had 2 students score a 2 (one of these students is MR and reads on a 1st grade level and the other is severely LD) and none that scored a 1. Needless to say my principal was ecstatic as was I. In fact our school in grades 3-6 implemented the toolkit and every grade level had over 90% of our students to score a 4 or a 3. I can't help but attribute that to the teaching of the strategies that are in the toolkit. I would also suggest that you read a book I'm currently reading that is awesome and it's for grades 6-12. It's called When Kids Can't Read What Teachers Can Do by Kylene Beers. It's published by Heinemann. I hope this helps!
