I just purchased Delicious Library. It only works with Macs but it is the
coolest thing ever! It's just $20 if you buy the old version but $40 if
you want the new one. You just need a Mac Compatible Web Cam or the
Build-In ISight. You simply put the barcode on the book up to the camera
and it scans it in and automatically puts it into your library collection.
You can sort them by genre, author, title, etc.

The best thing about this program, however, is the check-out system. You
just enter all of your student's names in the program as borrowers. You
can even put their pictures beside their names. Then when they want to
check out a book, they scan the barcode and then drag the book over to
their name. It has a check-in date and everything. When they want to
check the book in, they click on their name and select "Check-In" from the
menu.

Now, this may be a little much for younger kids but I teach fourth grade
and I think they are going to love using this program. Previously, I had
a library pocket in the back of all of the books with a slip of paper
containing the book's title on it. When they wanted to check out a book,
they took the slip of paper and put it in their pocket on a poster beside
the library. I teach 3 classes of Reading so I had 40-60 kids with slips
of paper in pockets at any given time. It looked messy and the slips of
paper were always getting lost. This is going to be so much easier.

I'm about half-way through entering my books and I already have close to
500 books!
