We are required (by Title I in our county) to ability group for reading. Last year and again this year I have the above grade level 3rd grade readers. The Gifted and Talented supervisor purchased the Junior Great Books series for use with these groups. At first I resisted being told one more thing I had to do! However, I must say, the kids do enjoy the stories and find them interesting. Additionally, they promote loads of conversation, much strategy use, and a lot of vocabulary development. http://www.greatbooks.org/programs-for-all-ages/junior.html
