I am in a district that was trained a number of years ago by Connie Prevatte in "teacher directed reading". I would appreciate hearing thoughts concerning "teacher directed reading". From what I understand it is a 40-60 minutes lesson daily. The class uses the same text that is age appropriate, not reading level appropriate. The outline of the lesson is as follows: 10mins prereading, 15-20 mins shared (meaning teacher read aloud, students paired-"compassionate reader" with weaker reader, and/or independent reading) and then post reading 10-15 minutes. This is may be more familiar to NC teachers. It reigns strong in my district, yet I had not heard of Prevatte or TDR in VA or GA. Any thoughts would be MUCH appreicated! iris This e-mail is for the sole use of the individual for whom it is intended.
