Ditto! I have never taught this to 5th grade before and I am struggling
with creating lessons/ activities that are interesting, especially for
my reluctant readers.
Thank you!

My colleagues and I are presenting to our staff on Monday! We attended
a presentation by Debbie Miller on Thursday and we will share our
learning and information presented by her. One of the things I am
trying to pull together is a list of available web sites/places teachers
can go for support and learning more about teaching comprehension
strategies.
Also, any great ideas that provide a wow factor for teachers to want to
know more about this fabulous teaching would be great. For some of our
teachers this is new. For some of teachers, they feel they are fine
with the way things are.....So, differentiating is great and ideas are
always welcome!!!! For those of you who may work in a school or district
where some don't teach the strategies.....how do you handle PD? As
always....thank you!
Mary Helen

Take a look at Read, Write and Think...I think it is one of the best
websites available. It provides lesson plans and all of the printable
materials and forms that you need for each lesson.
http://www.readwritethink.org/index.asp
Also, here is the link for a great lesson on compare and contrast...and
you will be able to find lessons for all of the strategies you need!

Hello Jen,
There is a group on Yahoo called "Real Writing Teachers". I think they
may have files to support what you are looking for in regards to author
studies and learning their crafts. Michele Polselli NBCT

I have been watching the posts and am getting ready to do this strategy
soon. I would like to do some reading, but I noticed one post said
Janet Allen created the Get the Gist and the other post I saw, refers to
Patricia Cunningham. Where could I find more information about get the
gist?
Thanks,
Linda

We've had great success in my district with the GIST strategy......I
actually
think Patricia Cunningham's husband created this for older students.
