To the Mosaic members but particularly to Lori:
My apologies on the wording in my previous email re: eighth grade sci-fi club and the book Twilight. I think it's a great series for either gender. I don't believe books should be ascribed to readers of a particular gender. I guess I wasn't clear. I was commenting on the fact that at that age (eighth grade) some kids fall victim to that "girl book- boy book" pressure even though we, as educators, try to combat it as best we can. So all girls joined my friend's book club despite his open invitation to all students. As a result, the media specialist and my friend are trying to find ways to attract boys. That's all I intended to convey. I certainly meant no disrespect to you, your son, or to any YA readers by my comments. ________________________________ From: Ljackson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Mosaic: A Reading Comprehension Strategies Email Group <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, December 7, 2008 9:58:00 PM Subject: Re: [MOSAIC] Help: Need to start 8th Grade Sci-Fi Club My eighth grade son is racing through the Twilight Series, so I can quite see the 'of course'. His two guy buddies are reading through it as quickly as he is. With the movie coming out, I would think there will be even more of an audience. The gender assumptions bother me.
