Hi Shirley, Writing in math has become more expected over the last few years. Keeping a meaningful journal, not one that is just a time-filler, is a great way for students to write their way to meaning in math. I have my fifth graders write explanations of strategies, write letters to others explaining a math concept, and use numbers, drawings, tables, and words in their journals to work through math problems.
I hope this helps, Maureen Morrissey _______________________________________________ Mosaic mailing list [email protected] To unsubscribe or modify your membership please go to http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/options/mosaic_literacyworkshop.org.
