Six-Minute Solution: A Reading Fluency Program, Gail Adams, M.Ed, Sheron Brown, M.A., M.S., grades 3-8 & remedial High School
This is a great program to work on fluency. The book gives you quick tests to set fluency levels and lots of ideas on how to improve fluency. The book is full of nonfiction articles at a wide variety of reading levels. They work with partners to practice their fluency. I also have the students use excel to graph their progress. This gives them a great visual to track their own progress and set goals. Good luck! At my student teaching site, I have a 30 minute reading class for 8th graders. School wide, it is the period of the day for only silent reading. I also have to test their fluency each card marking. I have been assigned to take running records. The last time I tested them, the entire class' scores went down. Is there a better way to test fluency than running records? Is there a better way to increase fluency when I only have 30 minutes?
