The last year I was in the classroom I had a duo that paired for tremendous success with this series. One was a high reader with lots of background knowledge but little interest in reading fiction. His buddy was a less confident reader with a stronger sense of story and an ability to see the bigger, ongoing picture. Together, they conquered about 24 of the books. Incidentally, they got started because they choose this series as part of our investigation of series reading. Teams selected a series, were required to read at least three books in the series and then reported in terms of important things readers need to know (characters, setting, need to read in order, etc.).
