I used War Comes  Fighting Ground, Johnny Tremain and My brother
Sam is Dead with 5th 6th graders.  It was a stretch for a few - we did'
Lit circles (but I met regularly with groups) and kept a timeline and a map
And did reading logs of events/facts/characters which we could check
historically.  They also kept track of anytime characters were arguing about
taking sides in the war.  They then worked in groups to create a readers
theater skit from a scene in their books.  Did historical research on
something they found interesting historically.

You may be long gone...not sure why I'm even replying now.  Just intrigued
I guess.  I miss those days....hope you might still be out there.
