Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I am fortunate to have a book
room with class sets of books. I chose a book with student interests
and ability in mind. I present the book in class and leave it a day
or two so students can preview it. The students then sing up to join
the group. I then give each student an invitation to join the group
with the date. Our first meeting we discuss why we wanted to read the
book, make predictions etc. We also agree on the number of pages read
between meetings. The group brings their lunch to our room and we eat
and talk. By selecting different levels and/ or topics all children
have an opportunity to join the group.
Hope this helps,
Joanne/Ohio/3rd
