After reading The Book Whisperer, I am considering setting a goal for my third grade students to read a certain amount of books in specific genres. I am wondering if anyone has done this with this grade level and if you would share how you did it and if you thought it was/was not successful in exposing children to a variety of genres and holding them to a reading diet. What would you consider to be an acceptable number of books to require for reading in a school year for third graders? Thanks.
