We have used the Qualitative Reading Inventory-4, Leslie & Caldwell, for a more diagnostic assessment (K-12) after the DIBELS screening with the targeted students. It has graded word lists and expository passages, helping the teacher find a student's reading level, strengths and needs, while documenting growth. Measures of comprehension use retelling and specific questions with additional options for the examiner to allow the student to look back at the text to locate missing information on questions with incorrect or incomplete answers. For older students, 6-12, it also has an option to ask the student to Think-Aloud as they read, where the examiner stops the student at designated segments to describe what they are thinking at that point.

We are now trying to move on to identifying fluency and comprehension issues in older students--which the DIBELS doesn't cover--therein lies our district-wide issue. -------------------------------------------------- From: "Stein, Ellen H." <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, September 11, 2009 12:38 PM To: "Sue Van Ausdle" <[email protected]>; "Mosaic: A ReadingComprehension Strategies Email Group" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [MOSAIC] ***SPAM*** Re: K-12 reading assessmentprogramrecommendations> When our district adopted DIBLES about 7 years ago.
