Thanks for the idea, Kendra. That is simple and should be able to be
done independently. 

Since I last wrote I thought of other responses that are already made up
from instructor's magazines.  Although I wanted to keep it all within a
notebook, a colleague suggested I decrease the size and have the
students glue them in.  Why re-invent the wheel? Another good idea that
I thought that I would share.

Jeanne, I would use sentence starters such as:  I remember..., this
reminds me of..., I feel..., I see..., I wonder..., I infer..., I
predict..., and then get them to tell you why.
