There is also a companion program to Read 180 for striving readers who have not mastered the phonetic systems of our language--System 44, also from Scholastic. We are using it for the first time this year with a group of students who needed additional preparation before Read 180. It is worth looking at if you have students who are significantly below grade level and reading at Lexile levels BR to 400.

I would highly recommend it, as I have seen the positive results first hand. The program is designed with struggling readers in mind. Of course there is no "one answer" but this program has a lot to offer.
