I have used assorted word lists on the wall, here and there. They were
thematic or "word-chunk-oriented" (similar to what Lori described in
her post) and mostly confined to high-frequency or high-interest words,
i.e., math words, family words, little words, color words, etc. I had
them on half sheets of chart paper or 12x18 construction paper, and
then hanging on walls, cabinet doors, under the whiteboard, etc., in
places that made sense. The kind of lists depended on the grade level,
and I have done this with all grade levels. Math words next to the math
manipulatives shelves, art words on the art supply cabinets, etc.

Does anyone have suggestions on how you use your word walls in your
classroom? We are required to have one but I don't feel that I use
mine to it's fullest potential. Do you use vocabulary from your
literature books or spelling demons, etc. Vocabulary is a weakness in
my room and I need to really focus on it this year! Thanks.
