I would just have them sit on the regular floor. It is only a few minutes and it won't hurt them. I know it's not as cozy, and they will probably complain that it's hard, it's cold, whatever, but I'd have them do it anyway.

Can you maybe get some small rug samples that you can put down and take up? One for each student?
