your kids would really have to be at a low level to use the Dibels for that
purpose! I do the 5th grade passages and it would really worry me to have
those
older kids on that level! Honestly though the IFRA kit would have a much
better
true picture of their comprehension levels!!

Subject: [MOSAIC] Using DIBELS for older students

Okay, I need some feedback.

Our district is looking for a common screening assessment for the middle and
high school. What has been suggested is the DIBELS tools at the 6th grade
level. I am not confident that using a 6th grade reading passage with older
students will produce reliable and valid information. We want to use the
score,

with the DRP ( Degrees of Reading Power) score to determing what students may
benefit from a Reading Intervention class. Anyone have information about the
appropriateness and effectiveness of using DIBELS, or other fluency tools to
identify struggling readers?

thanks.
Alice
