your kids would really have to be at a low level to use the Dibels for that purpose! I do the 5th grade passages and it would really worry me to have those older kids on that level! Honestly though the IFRA kit would have a much better true picture of their comprehension levels!!

Our district is looking for a common screening assessment for the middle and high school. What has been suggested is the DIBELS tools at the 6th grade level. I am not confident that using a 6th grade reading passage with older students will produce reliable and valid information. We want to use the score, with the DRP ( Degrees of Reading Power) score to determing what students may benefit from a Reading Intervention class. Anyone have information about the appropriateness and effectiveness of using DIBELS, or other fluency tools to identify struggling readers? thanks.
