I've used Sitton Spelling for 9 years or so. I think it's a great program, but requires good training and staff "buy in." It's hard for teachers and parents to wrap their heads around it at first-especially if they're used to a "traditional" Monday-Friday list program. At the independent school where I used to teach, teachers at older grades really saw growth in students' spelling ability, specifically regarding homophones and other high-use words. I have found that some teachers refuse to use it with fidelity, and this hinders the program's effectiveness.

The children learn both the commonly written words and spelling patterns. The program is weak on spelling pattern above the third grade level so I supplement with weekly making words activities. The program is aimed at transferring the correct spelling into writing immediately and there is no Monday to Friday list to memorize. It's probably as close to an authentic spelling program as I have seen in my 28 years in the classroom in several different grade levels.
