There is a selection/ranking sheet that Kindergarten teachers fill out at the end of the year and then when those kids enter first grade we test the bottom 20% of the class based on that selection sheet and the DRA level/sentence dictation scores. Reading Recovery teachers administer the Observation Survey and then we meet as a team of RR teachers, first grade teachers, as well as last year's K teachers to determine who gets a slot for RR. We always take the lowest, although sometimes we give the lowest a different intervention and have those kids enter RR the second round. We tried this -this year and I think it helped to have the lowest know more rather than not having anything to build on. I have a Special Ed. student right now that we waited on and she cam ein with more than she had in the beginning of the year, so it makes it easier for her to understand and make some connections and hooks. Does this help??? I hope so. ---- Hillary Marchel <[email protected]> wrote: > Does anyone know what criterion is used for students entering reading > recovery? What about ELL students?
