You should check out the website for "The Center for Teaching and
Learning" (aka C-T-L). CTL is a private K-8 school in Edgecomb, Maine and
Nancie Atwell is at the helm. I did an internship at the school a few
years ago, and that school is amazing: a mecca of a truly literate
society. The students write book reviews, and these recommendations are,
in fact, the basis for the "Recommended Book Lists for Boys and Girls"
posted on the school website.
