Discussion of Awakening Heart by Georgia Heard starts today.

Everyone is welcome. We¹ll post a tentative schedule but feel free to chime
in any time. If you want to go back to a previous chapter fine!

We¹ll keep the subject line ³Awakening Heart² so that people who don¹t want
to follow the discussion can simply delete. If you want to add a specific
chapter to show which you are referring to we can try that BUT please leave
the ³AH² at the beginning of the subject line. For example: Awakening
Heart: Chapter 1. It is not necessary to add a specific chapter. The book
is pretty short and I¹m sure we¹ll all ³get² what you are talking about.

As you respond, delete all previous comments except the last one that you
are responding to. (Once you¹ve hit reply, it is easy to delete the unneeded
parts of the ongoing conversation.) We don¹t want to gummy up the list and
server by having extra long strings of accumulating comments!

Feel free to tap your ³reading strategies² as you reply. You might ask
questions. Powerful images may arise in your mind. You may want to make
connections to practices in your own classroom, to other texts, to the
world. You may want to check out an inference and see how others are
interpreting something. Let¹s just have a good rich conversation.

Feel free to make suggestions. We who are leading the conversation are
mainly here to just start us off on each chapter. But we will definitely
join in with the rest of you as the conversation grows. Do feel free to
email us privately if you have questions or suggestions that the whole list
may not need to see.

We¹ll begin today with the Introduction and Chapter 1. Sally will send
some thoughts and a few questions in an email to follow this. They are
just ideas, not questions or trains of-thought you need to follow.

Think you will love this book!!

Tentative timeline. We have hurried it a bit as there is an opportunity at
the end of the month to join a session with Georgia Heard.

Intro and Chapter 1: Saturday, January 28th.
Chapter 2: Friday, February 3rd
Chapter 3: Friday, February 10
Chapter 4: Friday February 17
Chapter 5: and afterward: Friday February 24.

Our sense is that possibly, since this is a short and very engaging read, we
may want to quicken this schedule. We¹ll check with you the second week and
see what you all think. It¹s been suggested from previous book studies that
participants do not like to drag it out too long because the enthusiasm
wanes. So let¹s just see how it goes.
