Hi Pat
what you are looking for is called a cassette to cd converter.

my hubby (audiophile and engineer) sent me to this link where many people are
giving guidance for this
.http://askville.amazon.com/device-convert-cassette-tape-cd/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=5709576
sample response was ...
.."If you have a portable stereo cassette player and a PC with a CD burner you
should be able to do it!You can connect the cassette player to the microphone
or line in ports on the sound card of your PC. Then you can use the Windows
Wave editor to record the file.
Then you can download and use the free sound editing software Audacity to split
the 1 large .wav file into several MP3 files.
Lastly you can use Windows Media Player or Itunes to burn a CD.

There were other response
hope it helps

Subject: [MOSAIC] cassette transfer

Sorry for the cross posting. I would like to ask a question of those of you
who
are old enough to still have cassettes. Does anyone know of a machine that
will
let me transfer a cassette to a CD. I have some historical materials that are
on cassettes, they need to be transcribed and I am afraid they will break with
the rewinding. The goal is to get a machine that will allow me to transfer
them
to CD's and work from there. Only one copy of each one is available. My
husband said he does not know of a stand alone machine but maybe there is a
cassette player with a usb that will allow me to plug into the computer and
then
burn the CDS from the computer. I would love a stand alone machine if I can
find one. Any suggestions. Thanks ahead of time.
PatK
