What was your reaction to Johnston's description of Kamins and Dweck's research of what happened with person oriented feedback vs. process oriented feedback? Of course you would expect person oriented criticism to have a negative affect on kids...but saying "I'm proud of you" has the same negative affect that "I'm disappointed in you"???
What about the comment that "only a few instances" of a particular form of feedback had strong effects? What are the implications for us as literacy teachers? What changes will YOU make in your day-to-day language with students? Jennifer L. Palmer, Ed. D.
