I'm delighted to see conversation popping up again on the listserv! I just
wanted to pop in to say that if you decide to read a book together this
summer I'd like to suggest Tom Newkirk's THE ART OF SLOW READING which is a
Heinemann title. I know there are plenty of pressing issues about CCSS and
I'm happy to share my perspective, but I read his book with my PLC this year
and it is, in my view, one of the best titles in years. My very best to
everyone on the listserv. ellin

I just got Lucy Calkins book today. I'm not a big fan of hers, but I will
read the book word for word.

I understand that CCSS is about what to teach, but when I (sometimes) don't
understand what the standard means, I'm not sure what to teach.
I'm also not sure how exacting the standards will be.

What does PARCC stand for?

Drive is the title of a book by Daniel Pink.
It is one of the best books I've ever read.

State leaders in the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness of College and
Careers share one fundamental goal: building their collective capacity to
dramatically increase the rates at which students graduate from high school
prepared for success in college and the workplace
