Kathy: The Daily 5 is a reading/writing workshop approach to teaching reading. My school implemented this approach in the primary grades last year and I saw students' reading increased, as well as assessment scores. To prepare for this change, you should reading the Daily 5 book. Also check out the Daily 5 website and sign up for their free weekly e-mail. For professional development you should attend the 2 sister's workshop. I think when you see how your students respond to the Daily 5, you will love it. The CAFE book future develops this approach.
