Hi moses support,

my name is Sai and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Brighton
(UK). My final year project involves using the Moses decoder. So far the best
option for me is to install it on Windows. This is proving to be a difficult
task because I can't seem to find a detailed document on how to install it on
Windows XP.

Here is how I started:

I went to sourceforge and opened the page containing files for the 2007-05-29
release. They're listed below:

moses.2007-05-29.tgz
moses.2007-05-29.zip
moses-cmd.2007-05-29
moses-cmd.2007-05-29.exe

I downloaded the exe and the zip file. Then I tried running the exe. It said
that a configuration file was missing. I assumed I had to unpack the zip file
and read the instructions for building it. After unpacking I found a
BUILD-INSTRUCTIONS file in the main folder. Following the steps in the manual I
went off doing all sorts of library installations before actually getting to
the end of the BUILD-INSTRUCTIONS file where I found some details on the
Windows installation saying:

Tested on 32-bit Windows XP and Vista using Visual Studio 2005.
Again, refer to the old manual
  http://homepages.inf.ed.ac.uk/s0565741/papers/developers-manual.pdf
The Windows build doesn't use the SRI or IRST language model libraries as
they can't be compiled under Windows using Visual Studio. Instead, an
internal language model, which behave like SRILM is used, however, it can only
handle up to trigrams.

Binaries for all external libraries needed can be downloaded from
  http://www.statmt.org/moses/?n=Moses.LibrariesUsed

Only the decoder is developed and tested under Windows. There are
difficulties using the training scripts under Windows, even with Cygwin.

I then read the "old manual" and particularly the sections on Windows. I
understand that mySQL++ is problematic and that a CVS project is available
instead. But where is it??

So in the end according to the "old manual" I have to download the Moses
decoder from svn through a CVS client for windows. Does this mean that I can't
use the four files I found in sourceForge to install Moses?

Please help, Im very confused and time is wasting.

Regards,

Sai
