I am the founder of the Worldwide Lexicon project
(www.worldwidelexicon.org). WWL is an open source, collaborative
translation system (think Wikipedia for translation). It combines
machine translation, volunteers and professional translators to
create translatable websites. WWL is a translation memory, and is
accessed via a straightforward web API (see wwlapi.appspot.com for a
preview of our version 2 web API and documentation). We will be
publishing the next release of the system in June, in advance of the
Open Translation Tools conference in Amsterdam.
One of the components in WWL is a machine translation proxy service
that front-ends a number of MT engines, and presents a common
interface for all of them. I'd like to add Moses to the list of
services WWL can talk to, and was curious if someone has implemented
a RESTful interface to Moses (e.g. we send a CGI query like
www.foo.com/translate?sl=en&tl=ru&st=Hello+World, and it replies with
a plain text response or an empty string, something simple like
that). I am also looking for people who are interested in hosting
Moses for various language pairs.
