Hi. I tried to regenerate makefiles, but I am getting the same error.
Let's take things from start:
1) My architecture is x86_64 . I could only compile srilm with the
makefile settings for i686-m64
2) After that (Regenerate and configure etc is properly run), Moses
compilation was giving this error:
/home/user/srilm/lib/i686-m64/liboolm.a(Vocab.o): relocation
R_X86_64_32 against `Vocab::compare(unsigned int, unsigned int)' can
not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
[exec] /home/user/srilm/lib/i686-m64/liboolm.a: could not
read symbols: Bad value
The same error is given for kenlm when it is enabled.
3) So then I tried to compile SRILM with fPIC and ommit kenlm
/home/user/tools/srilm$ make MAKE_PIC=yes Word
/home/user/tools/mosesdecode$ ./regenerate makefiles.sh
./configure --with-srilm=/home/elav01/tools/srilm --without-kenlm

Getting out of the dead end in (2) or (3) would be a solution for me.
I assume the whole problem has sth to do with
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/base/amd64/howtos/index.xml?part=1&chap=3
and that's why dynamic linking shows up, as pointed out by Barry. How to
fix that, though?
I had sth similar in the past, I think I managed to solve it by
compiling something (either SRILM or Moses) in a 32bit machine and then
working in the 64bit server... but this doesn't seem optimal.

hi lefty,
try
./regenerate-makefiles.sh
then
./configure ...
i think when there's a change in 1 of the root make/config files,
libtools gets confused. This happens very rarely, eg. when another
library dependency is added. Recently, another lm (kenlm) was added

I don't understand why your building the dynamic library - it should be off by
default. That seems to be connected with your build failure.
cheers
