i'm not sure if anyone's answered you question & i don't know exactly 
what your question is.

However, i was using backoff translation models recently & noticed a bug 
which i fixed a few weeks ago
   
http://mosesdecoder.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/mosesdecoder?view=revision&revision=4089
so you should update your decoder if you haven't already done so

I'm not sure if it works when you have multiple models, but i can't see 
a reason why it won't
