Hi Tetsuo

It looks like some of your recent changes have broken the windows build of 
mert. 

Is there a more portable alternative to using snprintf? At one time it was a 
Linux-specific call. Or if it's only used for debug messages, then you could 
just wrap the calls in 
#if !defined(_WIN32) && !defined(_WIN64)
