Dear all,

this December we will have the 10th installation of IWSLT – the
International Workshop on Spoken Language Translation. This year's
anniversary workshop will again feature an exciting evaluation campaign, as
well as the opportunity to present scientific work at the workshop.

We are looking forward to welcoming you all in beautiful Heidelberg this
December. Below you will find the detailed call for participation. All

Call for Participation
The International Workshop on Spoken Language Translation (IWSLT) is a
yearly scientific workshop, associated with an open evaluation campaign on
spoken language translation, where both scientific papers and system
descriptions are presented. The 10th International Workshop on Spoken
Language Translation will take place in Heidelberg, Germany on December
5-6, 2013.

*Evaluation Campaign*
The IWSLT 2013 Evaluation Campaign will focus on the translation of TED
Talks, a collection of public speeches on a variety of topics. The
evaluation campaign will include the following tracks:

*ASR track: *  automatic transcription of talks from audio to text
*Languages*:     English and German
* **Input format: *  unsegmented SPHERE
*Output format:* CTM, no case, no punctuation, UTF8

*SLT track: *   speech translation of talks from audio (or ASR output) to
text
*Input format:*  unsegmented SPHERE, or ASR output
*Directions:*
Official:    English -> French, German -> English, English -> German
Optional:  English-> Spanish, Portuguese (B), Italian, Chinese, Polish,
Slovenian, Arabic
*Output format:* NIST XML format, true case with punctuation

*MT track :  *  text translation of talks for two language pairs plus
eleven optional language pairs:
*Input format:* NIST XML format, true case with punctuation
*Directions:*
Official:  English -> French, German -> English, English -> German
Optional: English <-> Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese (B), Italian, Chinese,
Polish, Slovenian, Turkish, Dutch, Romanian, Russian
* Output format:* NIST XML format, true case with punctuation

*Evaluation methods:*
     *- ASR track:* word or character error rate
   *- SLT/MT: *BLEU (all directions) and subjective metrics (official
directions)

Training of MT systems and language models for ASR is constrained to data
supplied by the organizers. Supplied training, development, and test data
will be available under the workshop’s webpage.

·      Aug 19-25, 2013     : Dry run ASR track
·      Sep 2-7, 2013          : TEST period ASR track
·      Sep 16-22, 2013     : TEST period SLT track (official directions)
·      Sep 23-29, 2013     : TEST period MT track (official directions)
·      Oct 1-31, 2013        : TEST period MT/SLT track (optional
directions)
·      Oct 18, 2013            : System description paper due
·      Nov 8, 2013             : Review feedback
·      Nov 18, 2013           : Camera-ready paper due
·      Dec 5-6, 2013          : Workshop

*Scientific Papers*
The IWSLT invites submissions of scientific papers to be published in the
workshop proceedings and presented in dedicated technical sessions of the
workshop, either in oral or poster form. The workshop welcomes high quality
contributions covering theoretical and practical issues in the fields of
automatic speech recognition and machine translation that are applied to
spoken language translation. Possible topics include, but are not limited
to:

• ·       IWSLT 2013 review process is double-blind. Submitted manuscripts
will be peer-reviewed. Authors of accepted papers are requested to present
their paper at the workshop.
