You seem to be having two problems, the first of which is why you are having
pictures taken constantly.
I had this same question when I first set my system up years ago, and I found
and turned on these features:
# Locate and draw a box around the moving object.# Valid values: on, off,
preview (default: off)# Set to 'preview' will only draw a box in preview_shot
pictures.locate_motion_mode on
# Set the look and style of the locate box if enabled.# Valid values: box,
redbox, cross, redcross (default: box)# Set to 'box' will draw the traditional
box.# Set to 'redbox' will draw a red box.# Set to 'cross' will draw a little
cross to mark center.# Set to 'redcross' will draw a little red cross to mark
center.locate_motion_style redbox
?There are others like threshold and setup that help you figure out what is
moving as well.

 Hello,
Loving the software here....but....

I must be missing something simple. My camera is recording a lot .jpg files to
my home directory (continuous in fact). If I put my finger over the lens it
will quit. I'm a little puzzled as I have went through the renamed motion.conf
file and am calling this from the cli. The result I am getting happens even
though I have not modified the file. Also when I put a redirect in the section
that asks where I want the pics/movies to end up and this is not the place they
are going. They are going to my /home.

I am using a PS2 usb cam on a Lenovo x-61 laptop running Linux Mint 17. The
laptop has no webcam of it's own.

WebCam info:
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 1415:2000 Nam Tai E&E Products Ltd. or OmniVision
Technologies, Inc. Sony Playstation Eye

Thanks in advance for any tips or help

Full log: http://pastebin.com/LKS1hBhJ
As you can see only stream httpd on port 8081 has been started. The
web_control on port 8080 is closed and not restarted.

Right before watchdog timeouts there is a suspicious event FPS=1:

Mar 14 18:35:06 server motion[5758]: [1] [NTC] [EVT] event_new_video FPS 1

Probably, netcam (runs @10fps) stops sending images for some time and that
triggers watchdog. But why web_control is not restarted?

I'm investigating that now. But if you have any comments - please let me
know

Thanks
