Hi:
Does anybody know why I am getting these horizontal lines around areas
where there is motion?
http://www.htd.dns2go.com/163800.avi
I'm using this capture card,
http://store.bluecherry.net/product/pv-149-4-port-video-capture-card-120fps-realtime-recording/?v=7516fd43adaa
with 4 inexpensive cameras.
Originally it didn't do this.
Thanks,
Harlan

Am I correct in assuming that if another application sends a SIGALRM to
the PID of the running motion it will cause a instant snapshot on all
cameras that have the feature set?

I'd like to use motion to display a webcam feed from a USB camera. I
have that up and working.
However, I don't require the actual motion detection part of the
program. Is there a setting that will disable motion detection so that
it uses less CPU? [I realize that this is the primary feature of the
program..but I just don't need it right now...]
[I tried using mjpg_streamer, but it doesn't work with my USB camera,
suggestions for other "simple linux webcam servers" that would encode a
/dev/video0 to a mjpeg stream output on the web would also be welcome,
although I already have motion all set up and configured.....]
Thanks,
Jay

Hi Jay,
I use fswebcam on my archlinux machine, to capture an image from my usb
camera every 5 minutes, put a legend at the bottom of the picture and
save it. I then use rsync to upload it to my web server. They are very
"light weight" and work well.
If I can help with any more detail please let me know.
Good luck
Nigel

I don't know the answer to your first question, but I use vlc for
streaming from my camera. The command line syntax for getting it
going is a bit fiddly though.

Stream MJPEG using VLC:
/usr/bin/vlc -I dummy -vvv v4l2:///dev/video1 --sout
'#transcode{vcodec=mjpg,vb=10000,scale=1,width=720,height=576}:standard{access=http,mux=mpjpeg,dst=
0.0.0.0:8081}' --sout-deinterlace-mode=bob --sout-transcode-deinterlace
--sout-http-mime="multipart/x-mixed-replace;boundary=7b3cc56e5f51db803f790dad720ed50a"
Disable motion detection at runtime:
http://www.lavrsen.dk/foswiki/bin/view/Motion/MotionGuideBasicFeatures#Remote_Control_with_http
curl -s http://localhost:8080/0/detection/pause > /dev/null
But I recommend you fixing mjpg_streamer, it will give you best
performance. Especially if camera supports hardware mjpeg format

You could use a full-size mask file, or set minimum_motion_frames to some
ludicrous value.
