I have installed motion 4.1 on PCLinuxOS. (It did not come with motioneye.)

I can run it from the root terminal and it saves images. But the daemon
will not start automatically:

             5.

                after a few days

             6.

                from synaptic; i created this directory; ??? ??? ??? ???
                 ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? pid file not showing up

             8.

                /etc/init.d/motion not installed from synaptic

             9.

/etc/default/motion not installed from synaptic; i
                created the file with

                |start_motion_daemon=yes|

Do you have this in your motion.conf:

############################################################
# Daemon
############################################################

# Start in daemon (background) mode and release terminal (default: off)
daemon on
