Just make sure any light is "indirect" so it's not shining directly at the baby, and/or use a diffuser to help scatter the light. Not sure how good it will get, but it works well for office areas which are totally dark at night ;) Regards, Adam -- Adam Goryachev Website Managers www.websitemanagers.com.au -- The information in this e-mail is confidential and may be legally privileged. So it's curious that you a motion.service file on your system at all. Which raises the question as to how it got there. Did you use synaptic to install motion on your system? You said that you did. But somehow you think you got an incomplete install out of it. I've read back through this thread. You mention issuing this command: "cp /usr/share/motion/examples/motion.init-Debian > /etc/init.d/motion" Debian is a systemd distro and not an init.d system like PC Linux OS. I don't understand how you have Debian anything on your system. You also mention creating motion.conf file in a non-standard place along with a couple other files. You shouldn't have to do any of this. It's beginning to look like you've mangled your installation. It just shouldn't be this hard to get motion up and running. Sometimes you just have to start all over instead of trying to fix what you have. It's OK. It's happened to all of us. You've learned a lot in the process and odds are you'll discover your mistake the second time around. I recommend removing the motion install you have. Run whatever command synaptic says run to delete/purge your motion install. Then delete all the files and folders you created manually and start all over. Especially make sure you clear out your init.d folder and sub-folders of all things motion. See what you can find in the PC Linux OS forums for motion and follow their advice and stay away from advice from people who use systemd. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But it'll be OK! :-) Live and learn. Good luck. > On Thu, May 17, 2018 at 6:03 AM, Ralph Shamie <oldne...@att.net> wrote: > > So, I copied my file motion.init-Debian to /etc/init.d/motion: > > > > [root@L6 ~]# cp /usr/share/motion/examples/motion.init-Debian > > /etc/init.d/motion > > > > [root@L6 ~]# ls -al /etc/init.d/motion > > > > -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1324 May 15 21:26 /etc/init.d/motion* > > > > I have the feeling I need to change attributes on this file. > Incidentally, > > there is another file in the examples directory called > > > > motion.service: > > > > [Unit] > > > > Description=Motion daemon > > > > After=local-fs.target network.target > > > > > > [Service] > > > > PIDFile=/var/run/motion.pid > > > > ExecStart=/usr//usr/bin/motion -n > > > > Type=simple > > > > StandardError=null > > > > > > [Install] > > > > WantedBy=multi-user.target > > > > I don't know where that one would go. If it is too dark - there will be no way to increase brightness without cutting infrared filter and using extra infrared illumination On Thu, May 17, 2018 at 11:17 PM, James Allsopp via Motion-user < motion-user@lists.sourceforge.net> wrote: > Hi, > I've got motion working on my raspberry pi and it's great, but I'm trying > to use it as a baby monitor.
