Harlan,

Thanks for your reply. I have been using Motion on this Pi for over a year. It
is set up as a CCTV on the front of our house.

I bought another sd card yesterday and installed motion from"
https://jarlowrey.com/blog/rpi-with-motion.html"; today

Same problem.

Eventually found that the video cable is faulty

I now have a spare pi setup sd.

My original Motion set up was using
"http://www.joakimlahtinen.se/2016/installing-motion-on-raspberry-pi-2-jessie/";
which still works fine since I changed the video cable.

Best Regards

Subject: [Motion-user] despeckle filter

Hi:

I have some understanding of the despeckle filter, but I don't understand the
(l) labeling. It labels an area, but for how long? Is it until motion is
restarted?

If your looking at a shadow from a tree blowing in the wind it moves all day
with the sun, so if the label is permanent my entire back yard would be labeled
until I restart motion.

I don't see anything here about this.

Thanks,

Harlan

Hello Harlan,

despeckle (and labeling) is done on a per frame basis only. Despeckle (eEdD) is
kind of a de-noiser. Next level of eliminating false positive pixels is
labeling. Areas of contiguous motion pixels are identified and 'labeled'. After
identifying all possible labels in a frame, the label containing the largest
number of motion pixels (or was it the top 2 or 3 altogether? Can't remember
actually.) wins the race. Only the motion pixels of that label are counted as
motion pixels for that entire frame. That's why you have to set a slightly
lower threshold when enabling labeling to get the same sensitivity. For the
next frame, the same procedure starts from scratch.
