Jack,

I am not sure what you are responding to but I just put up a notice asking if
anyone knew about what could be wrong with my Pi camera and Motion software. I
eventually found that it was the camera cable being faulty. I have replaced it
and it is OK now.

Hope someone resolves your problem for you.

Regards

ok, but what does that have to do with my camera? it is a brand new usb camera,
and extension cable. it was working fine. the only thing i can think of is
updating the system somehow screwed up the settings or perhaps reinstalling
motion did. if i could box out the built in camera and use only the usb camera
before, then why not now? is there anything in the log file i am missing? it
cant be the camera, because i test it out with cheese to see if it even works,
and sure enough it is working flawlessly. so it is somewhere in the motion
settings, just where?

Jack,

Thanks for your reply. I have been using Motion on this Pi for over a year. It
is set up as a CCTV on the front of our house.

I bought another sd card yesterday and installed motion from"
https://jarlowrey.com/blog/rpi-with-motion.html"; today

Same problem.

Eventually found that the cable video cable is faulty

I now have a spare pi setup sd.

Incidentally I have to have Daemon turned off in the conf file.

My original Motion set up was using
"http://www.joakimlahtinen.se/2016/installing-motion-on-raspberry-pi-2-jessie/";
which still works fine since I changed the video cable.

Best Regards

Subject: [Motion-user] unable to start motion after it worked for many weeks

i had my share of hiccups starting it and getting it to record, until i just
started using sudo motion and then sudo killall motion to shut it down. it
recorded fine. i had dropbox linked to the record folder. the config file is
the same as it was when it worked, but now it will not work. motion starts, but
will not recors anything, no matter what i do, or how many times i jump up and
down in front of the camera. before it quit working it only took a bit of
movement to record video and stills. now it wont do anything. i also
reinstalled motion in synaptic.

here is the log file in case it has something i dont recognize as the issue.

where it says devices, it indicates it is trying to use the internal webcam

changed it in the config file?
