Support for H.265 (HEVC) is becoming common in modern IP cameras.? Is there any
way that Motion can be set up to work with h.265 over an RTSP connection?? I've
done some searching, but all the references to H.265 are for the option to
output video files in H.265, not to input from an IP camera.

I have a number of IP cameras that I run through motion so I can receive
instant messages (via Pushover) and an emailed still image when motion is
detected.? I also run the commercial "Milestone" package in parallel with
Motion.? Milestone is used to record continuously and fill in the gaps that
Motion missed if/when an event occurs.?? H.265 is highly desirable with
Milestone, since it halves the disk space needed for recording.... but at the
moment I have to keep the new H.265 cameras in H.264 mode for compatibility
with Motion.

Should work fine. Give it a try

mpeg4 (ffmpeg_bps 7000000) = .640 bpp

h264 (ffmpeg_bps 7000000) = .160 bpp

Is there a ratio between (bpp h264 - bpp mp4) that gives approximately the
same quality video?
