Message-ID: <4e924fc3-c833-3bf3-897d-8a118f6fc...@hinchfamily.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8; format=flowed I'm attempting to make use of ${host} in the "text_left" config option and ultimately in an SQL INSERT. It does not seem to be working for me: On a working system I change text_left in motion.conf to: ??? text_left CAMERA %{host} %t After sending SIGHUP to motion, the display on the lower left of the web page is: ??? CAMERA? host? 0 My host name (/etc/hostname) is not "host". I'm probably doing something simple wrong -- I'd appreciate any tips. Message-ID: <7010dd74-7c51-f366-9683-0e949f601...@gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="utf-8" Seems to works fine here, RPi Zero W, Raspbian Lite 2018-11-13, Motion 4.2.1, RPi v2 camera. Check around for extra/stray config files. I had an extra config file in my home directory and didn't realize it. When I changed parameters in my "real" config file, some would take effect and others not. There are other *conf files in the /etc/motion directory, but none seem to be getting pulled in -- the "camera" and "camera_dir" directives are both commented out.. Also, my "text_left" changes are getting recognized, they just are not displaying the expected out (i.e., "host" as opposed to my actual hostname). The only difference I can see is versions -- I'm on Motion 4.0 and you? are on 4.2.1. A very quick scan of recent GIT activity does not appear to show changes in this area, but ... Normal rasbian updates will only allow me to get to 4.1.1, and that with some difficulty. Would you mind sending me the exact text_left (or whatever) string you used that showed your actual hostname? I suspect a syntax problem, though I've tried enclosing %{host} in ", ', ` all with no success.
