The version is quite fresh, however I'd still recommend you to install
the latest 4.2
The error you have referenced indicates a network issue when the
camera goes offline. But after some timeout the connection has to be
closed and restarted. Strange that motion does not do that gracefully
and floods the log. We would need to find a way to reproduce the issue
locally in order to investigate it

As a start point I'd like to see your config and full log, also as a
test you can try to disable keep-alive

I was collecting the log and config files for you when I realized 
another difference between this one camera and the others - a custom 
wedge that I wrote years ago to handle the pan and tilt for that old 
camera.? This is code that runs on the Pi as a mini-server and gives the 
camera a JPEG interface, as well as allowing pan and tilt commands when 
viewing the video stream. It's been running for years unchanged on 
various computers I've used with Motion, which is probably why I forgot 
about it being associated with that one camera.

Although this program doesn't have to be restarted when the problem 
occurs, I would still suspect it before I would Motion.? I should 
probably investigate it before getting you to waste your time chasing 
rabbits.? Truthfully, what I should do is deep-six that old camera and 
get a modern one.

I just upgraded from Motion 4.1.1 to 4.2.1 and updated my configuration 
file with the changes.? Everything seems to work except the 
webcontrol_interface 2.? I require the legacy setting because I have 
built extensive automation around motion using wget and scripts.

When I use a browser to access port localhost:8080 I am not seeing the 
thumbnail images from my four cameras but can click through to 
detection, actions, and etc.? Any idea what I missed?
