When I last tested, motion performed encoding on a single thread.
Don't know if anything has changed
What is the problem with extpipe?

Or, if you want to try to fix your current version try to change
brightness settings in your config

Your settings are:

# Valid range 0-255, default 0 = disabled
brightness 15
# Valid range 0-255, default 0 = disabled
contrast 10
# Valid range 0-255, default 0 = disabled
saturation 5

[1:ml1] [NTC] [VID] [Mar 31 12:45:43] v4l2_scan_controls: found
control 0x00980900, "Brightness", range -64,64
[1:ml1] [NTC] [VID] [Mar 31 12:45:43] v4l2_scan_controls:
"Brightness", default 0, current -57
[1:ml1] [NTC] [VID] [Mar 31 12:45:43] v4l2_scan_controls: found
control 0x00980901, "Contrast", range 0,30
[1:ml1] [NTC] [VID] [Mar 31 12:45:43] v4l2_scan_controls:
"Contrast", default 13, current 1
[1:ml1] [NTC] [VID] [Mar 31 12:45:43] v4l2_scan_controls: found
control 0x00980902, "Saturation", range 0,127
[1:ml1] [NTC] [VID] [Mar 31 12:45:43] v4l2_scan_controls:
"Saturation", default 38, current 2

Which definitely looks below the default values

I have used find and delete a lot for housekeeping but it was too
approximate and could not cope with variations in image quantity. In the
end I wrote a script that maintains directories at a particular size,
deleting the older files as necessary. This is further complicated
because I use album ( https://marginalhacks.com/Hacks/album )
extensively to maintain webcam images.

I had to do a bit of web searching to get the shell snippets I required
to do this. Although I would have thought that it's the sort of thing
that there would be a linux tool readily available for I wasn't able to
find anything that did it automatically and ended up having to script it.
