First I commented out that line and nothing changed. Then I changed it to: vid_control_params brightness=100,contrast=100,saturation=100,hue=100 And now I have a picture! Quite saturated and quite colorful. But at least it isn't gray! Thank you, my friend. I wish I had asked this question yesterday before spending the hours that I did on this. I fiddled with that yesterday and finally commented it out altogether. Evidently motion is going to do that check whether it's specified or not. It also only applies to net cams and not web cams. Mr. Dave put me on the right track. I changed vid_control_params to: vid_control_params brightness=100,contrast=100,saturation=100,hue=100 And now I have a picture. Now to adjust all those parameters until I get them where they're supposed to be. Regards.
